Laura BaigorriWhy does no one sing any more in rural Spain? This film is a hymn to the heart of Africa that seeks to celebrate the roots of our humanity in a place where nature is sacred, where the material and spiritual join together, and where joy, generosity and life – corresponding undoubtedly to the female principle – spring quite naturally from everyday death.
The Diola people of Africa get their food from farming and hunting. These are also the main occupations in Guardiola, the author’s village. Yet materialism, lack of generosity, consumerism in its diverse variants – as offered, for instance, by the entertainment industry – are breaking the original bond that connects us to the magical side of life and all that gives it meaning.
Try to remember, there is a dream that is dreaming us.
