Laura BaigorriGlobal Windshield, The Musical starts behind the windshield of a car driving along a freeway. The hypnotic images bring us to a strung-out state in which the road is transformed into three characters that guide us on our journey. Bypassing prophecies and rules, we come to a cave with a sea of mercury lava, where our mission is to survive using our minds as the ultimate weapon. This judgment will take us into a new musical space ruled by a blue cleaner acquired from a supermarket in exchange for loyalty points. Applying this cleaning fluid reveals layers of transparency that allow us to gradually discover what lies beyond the foreground image. The visible combination of these layers will move us onto the video’s closing section, a love poem that unfolds through an analogy between Baci chocolates with their love notes and the metadata of the Swiss Fort Knox. All leading to our unexpected arrival in the universe’s center.
Overcoding, serial linkage, looping and general mayhem turn Global Windshield into a digital abstraction wedding poetry and music. A love story that speaks of fears and also hopes at the end of the highway.
The work explores the impact of a virtual, hyperreal world and invites us to question our relationship with technocratic, digitalized culture in the hybrid space we now inhabit, our tangible lives progressively dematerializing.
