PROJECT
El accidente de Vollard weaves a speculative web concerning the unsolved accident that cut short the life of Ambroise Vollard, art dealer, friend and key figure in the careers of painters like Gauguin, Matisse, Cézanne, Renoir or Pablo Picasso. It lays the probable blame for this untimely death on a blow to the back of the neck with a bronze sculpture by Aristide Maillol or, as other versions would have it, a copper plate.
The artist will use the differing versions of the incident offered by biographers and specialists to create a video installation. The idea is to analyze and reinterpret this historical event, reconstructing its locations and surrounding circumstances through an audiovisual work that explores the unresolved factors in the case and a series of practical exercises on the materials involved, such as bronze, asphalt or copper.
